So far i was told to get a divx-codec and another one. (can remember the damn thing).

So which and how many codecs should i install?

P.S. If anyone asks they are all micky mouse movies....
Or wait no home videos, yeah thats what it is...

XviD is also often used, it's kinda like DivX but open source and 100% free..

I use the precompiled version on http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml

Watch out when you install the Nimo codec, it messes up your comp alot..

Look for a program called gspot <hunts for a url> http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

And when installing the nimo codec, follow this advice <hunts for the thread>

you intalled the Nimo Codec Pack, then you need to uninstall it and re-install it, but this time you must uncheck the “ffdshow filter” under “Direct Show Filters” because it causes a conflict and your movie ends up looking like a green oil painting gone mush. You can always tell that a movie is an xvid because it starts with a green screen. You need xvid codecs to view alot of files. I have noticed that alot of dvd screeners are encoded with xvid. I guess the guy who gets these screeners likes xvid. Let me know if this helps. And also if you want to avoid errors when reinstalling the Nimo Codec pack, shut down your computer after uninstalling it.

Then you have to download the latest version of FFD Show. (hunt in google for it)

http://www.moviecodec.com/mb/topic619.shtml (for that post, and more info on the xvid installation / ffdshow)
1. Uninstall the Nimo Codec Pack and any other codecs you have tried installing – get rid of them ALL!
2. Shut down your machine.
3. Restart the thing – duh.
4. Download the FFDSHOW 01-03-2003 alpha from http://www.dawnload.net/video_software/subtitle_tools/ffdshow.cfm or www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm or just do a search for “FFDSHOW Filter” and look for the one with the date 01-03-2003.
5. Now install the Nimo Codec Pack first, BUT make sure you uncheck the “Ffdshow DirectShow 2002-04-19” under “DirectShow Filters” and keep hitting “Next” until the install completes.
6. Now install the “FFDSHOW 01-03-2003” you have downloaded (it’s 9 months newer than the other one and you will see that makes all the difference). Just accept all the default settings and keep clicking “Next”.
